PRESS RELEASE

New Democrat leader Jack Layton said today that if British Columbians vote down the HST in the June 24 referendum, Ottawa must allow the province to keep the federal money the Harper Government used to bait the HST hook.

“The NDP was the only party to stand up for BC in the House of Commons by voting against the HST in 2009. Today, Jack Layton stood up for us again,” said Garrison.

Layton told British Columbians that if the voters reject the HST in the upcoming referendum, he would rip up the backroom Harper–Campbell HST deal that was forced on the people of British Columbia and ensure that the penalties contained in the agreement were cancelled.

“Jack Layton is the only Leader who understands that British Columbians shouldn’t be punished because Gordon Campbell and Stephen Harper didn’t tell us the truth,” said Garrison. “He is the only Party leader to respect that the people of BC reject this tax.”

Garrison launched a youtube video today to let people know about the announcement. “Social media has been an excellent tool for engaging people,” said Garrison. “I’ll be posting videos throughout the campaign. It’s a great way to spread the word and give people easy access to all the reasons they should vote NDP.”
