Victoria - Randall Garrison, MP (Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke) is calling on the government to reconsider the new action plan that it put forward regarding the survival of Northern and Southern Resident Killer Whales on Thursday March 9th 2017. Garrison had been calling on the Conservatives and now the Liberals since 2012 to put forward a plan with concrete actions necessary to ensure the survival of these iconic mammals.

Today I rose in the House of Commons to speak in favour of Bill C-16: An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Code and the Criminal Code. This bill will add gender identity and gender expression to the list of prohibited grounds of discrimination.

Dear Minister Blaney,

As I am sure you are well aware, the death of Lucia Vega Jimenez, a Mexican woman facing imminent deportation, occurred in December while she was in the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency (CSBA) at the Vancouver airport. This tragic death has sparked an outcry from the public demanding answers as to how this could have happened. While it is true that the BC Coroner’s Service is investigating this death, that inquiry will only determine cause of death and will not address questions of accountability for those under CBSA custody.

Randall Garrison Launches Petition to Save the Whales

Victoria - Today Esquimalt- Juan de Fuca MP Randall Garrison launched a petition drive to save the remaining 81 Southern Resident Killer Whales. “I have received overwhelming response from my constituents supporting my motion M-460 that contains an Action Plan to address key threats to the survival of the Southern Resident Killer Whales,” Garrison said. “The next step is to bring these voices to Parliament,” Garrison noted. Signatures will be collected throughout the holidays so the petitions can be tabled in the House of Commons when it resumes sitting on January 27th.

Statement on Canadian Blood Services proposal to end ban on blood donations by gay men

Canadian Blood Services has made a request to Health Canada to change the current lifetime ban on men who have sex with men from donating blood to a five-year deferral. This would mean that any gay man who has abstained from sex with a man for at least five years would be allowed to donate blood.
