OTTAWA – As the fall sitting of Parliament ends, New Democrat Leader Nycole Turmel highlighted the many accomplishments of New Democrats in what was a historic year for all Canadians.
“Quite simply, 2011 is the year that Canadians changed Ottawa – forever,” said Turmel.
OTTAWA – House Leader and MP for Windsor-Tecumseh, Joe Comartin, tabled a motion today to prevent Conservatives from continuing to undermine Canadian democracy by limiting debate on bills and fast-tracking the legislative process, which they’ve already done seven times since the beginning of this parliamentary session.
NDP Leader Nycole Turmel called on the Conservatives to stop hiding from the Opposition.

Madam Speaker, I stand today to recognize November 20, the Transgender Day of Remembrance. This is a day when people in communities across Canada and around the world gather to remember the victims of transphobic violence and to dedicate themselves to working to end all forms of discrimination against transgender and transsexual people.
We all need to speak out against Bill C-10 and its wrong-headed approach to crime and public safety. I encourage all of you to do so because that is precisely what the Conservatives don’t want you to do. They do not want to hear the fact-based arguments against their policies.
