Mr. Speaker, this Conservative government has developed a bad habit of gutting environmental protection in my riding of Esquimalt – Juan de Fuca and across Canada. Last year in Bill C-38, this government eliminated protection for all streams, rivers and lakes on Vancouver Island under the Navigable Waters Protection Act.

Mr. Speaker, this past Monday was the first Family Day in British Columbia. In my riding, municipalities celebrated this day with a free pancake breakfast in Langford, a family fun swim in Esquimalt, and family hockey games at the Sooke leisure complex, to name just a few.
Statement on Transgender Day of Remembrance

Mr. Speaker, today I rise to recognize November 20 as Transgender Day of Remembrance. People in communities across Canada and around the world will gather today to remember victims of transphobic violence and to dedicate themselves to working to end discrimination against transgender, transsexual and gender-variant people.

Mr. Randall Garrison (Esquimalt—Juan de Fuca, NDP): Mr. Speaker, last night was an historic occasion for Canada, the LGBTQ community and transgender, transsexual and gender variant Canadians.
I want to thank the 150 members of Parliament who voted in favour of my legislation on gender identity and gender expression as members from all parties joined together to get Bill C-279 to committee. I want to thank them all sincerely for their support.
