We Can Act Now to Improve Access to Childcare

Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca has a crippling lack of childcare spaces.
We have families in Sooke who drive to Langford to put their baby in infant care, then drop their 3 year old off in Esquimalt to get the childcare they need. We have waitlists for infant care running to 18 months and private care is incredibly expensive. We need affordable childcare spaces created locally now, and we need a national childcare plan.
Voting NDP will put childcare on Ottawa's priority list now.
The NDP will work with the provinces and territories to establish and fund a Canada-wide child care and early learning program, enshrined in law, with the following goals:
o The creation of 25,000 new child care spaces per year for the next four years;
o Improvements to community infrastructure to support the growth of child care spaces;
o The creation of integrated, community-based, child-centred early learning and education centres that provide parents with a “one-stop shop” for family services.
