MP Randall Garrison Concerned Bill C-6 Will Not Pass the Senate Prior to an Election
OTTAWA - Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke MP Randall Garrison is frustrated that Bill C-6, the Liberal Government’s bill banning conversion therapy, has failed to pass the Senate before adjournment, leaving SOGIE Canadians still without protection from this harmful and fraudulent practise.
“Survivors of so-called conversion therapy have expressed so clearly the harm that this abusive, homophobic practise caused them. I am gravely disappointed that the Liberal Government delayed this bill in the House of Commons and did not leave the Senate enough time to pass it before it adjourned for the summer. My community, SOGIE Canadians, deserve better.” Said Garrison, who is one of four out gay MPs in the current parliament and serves as the NDP’s Critic for both Justice and Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression.
Garrison cautions that if the Liberal Government insists on an unnecessary election, the cost will be the death of C-6 in the Senate.
